Over a half million individuals take the GRE General Test in over 1,000 test centers in 160 countries every year, and scores are accepted at thousands of graduate programs around the world, for masters and doctoral degrees.

GRE Pattern

GRE exam pattern is as follow- three sections, namely, Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. The Analytical Writing section will always be the first, whereas, the Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and unscored sections may appear in any order. Along with the time duration difference, the pattern also differs for paper-based and online exams.

GRE General Test is an objective type test that aims on Analytical Writing (2 questions with time duration of 60 minutes), Verbal Reasoning (2 sections, 40 questions with time duration of 60 minutes) and Quantitative Reasoning (2 sections, 40 questions time duration of 70 minutes).

Apart from these, an unidentified unscored section may appear in any order after Analytical Writing Section and an identified research section may appear at the end of the test. The no. of questions and allotted time limit for both these sections will vary.

GRE also has subject tests, apart from the basic GRE exam. These subject tests help to make your application stand out from the rest by highlighting your subject knowledge and skill level of a particular subject. Each subject test is intended for those students who have a bachelor’s degree in the particular disciplines. The subject tests being offered currently are Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Literature, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.
